Das Playstation-5-Spiel „Astro Bot“ ist der große Gewinner der diesjährigen Game Awards. Auch „Balatro“ und „Metaphor: ReFantazio“ konnten mehrere Auszeichnungen für sich beanspruchen.
„Astro Bot“ wurde nicht nur als bestes Spiel des Jahres ausgezeichnet, sondern auch als bestes Action- & Adventurespiel und bestes Familien-Spiel. Zudem erhielt es den Preis für die beste Regie. Diese Entscheidungen trafen Jury und Community gemeinsam. Auch das Poker-Kartenspiel „Balatro“ und das Rollenspiel „Metaphor: ReFantazio“ wurden mehrfach ausgezeichnet. Jeweils zwei Preise gingen zudem an „Black Myth: Wukong“, „Helldivers II“ und „Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II“.
Die Nominierungen für die Game Awards werden von einer Jury aus Journalisten vorgeschlagen, die endgültige Entscheidung treffen jedoch die Spieler selbst. Hierbei fließt das Votum der Jury zu 90 Prozent und das der Spieler zu 10 Prozent in das Endergebnis ein. Ausnahme bildet der Players‘ Voice Award, bei dem die Community alleine den Gewinner bestimmt. Im letzten Jahr ging der Titel für das beste Spiel an „Baldur’s Gate 3“, im Jahr davor an „Elden Ring“. „Baldur’s Gate 3“ wurde in diesem Jahr erneut ausgezeichnet, diesmal für den besten Community-Support.
Die Game Awards haben sich in den letzten Jahren zu einer der führenden Veranstaltungen der Videospielindustrie entwickelt. Neben der Preisverleihung werden zahlreiche Trailer und Neuankündigungen gezeigt, ähnlich wie auf der E3. Highlights der diesjährigen Veranstaltung waren unter anderem der erste Trailer für „The Witcher 4“, ein Blick auf „Borderlands 4“, ein Gameplay-Trailer für „The Outer Worlds 2“, ein Trailer für „Mafia: The Old Country“ und Vorschauen auf „Split Fiction“, „Rematch“, „Thick as Thieves“ und „Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet“.
